Winter does not steal the beauty of Vajdahunyad Castle, quite on the contrary, the towers and turrets, the moat and the chapel, the courts surrounded by medieval and baroque wings all convey a special atmosphere, which makes Vajdahunyad Castle one of the most visited attractions in the City Park in Budapest.
When the cold weather sets in, it is usually November (do visit the St Martin’s Weekend and the New Wine & Cheese Festival in the Castle). Both events offer traditional Hungarian tasting opportunities, and some insights into Hungarian cultural traditions, well nurtured in the countryside.
In December, there used to be some Advent Fairs in Vajdahunyad Castle, but these days the Christmas stalls and craft makers have moved to the two bigger Christmas markets in Budapest to showcase their products, the Budapest Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Square, and the Budapest Advent Fair at the St Stephen’s Basilica.
Although there are usually no New Year events in Vajdahunyad Castle, there are many New Year Budapest Events, from New Year’s Eve Parties to New Year Concerts in Budapest, Hungary.
December / January / February in Vajdahunyad Castle
All three months the Castle is open, welcoming visitors who wish to see the permanent and temporary exhibitions inside Vajdahunyad Castle, featuring thematic collections of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum.
Temporary exhibitions have a wide range of themes, not necessarily related to agriculture or farm life in Hungary, for instance, it could be about Hungarian Noblemen’s Treasures.
